Come on to the Baltic coast, and see Lithuania’s holiday paradise

Along the Coast

Each summer the population in the little coastal village of Palanga increases from 20,000 to about 200,000. A friendly invasion. All hotels and rented flats are filled until they're about to burst, but it is far from enough. People will have to sleep on the beach. Palanga is the Lithuanians dream about the sea. Holiday personified. Rituals like saying goodnight to the sun from the city pier every night remain since time immemorial, delighting everyone. After sunset, the party continues. You have but one problem: how to get the ice-cream out of the wrapper.
Sventoji lies to the far north where the beaches are wide

Sventoji

Let us begin up north, towards Latvia. In Sventoji, you rent an apartment and then head for the beach as fast as possible. In the evening there are amusement parks and game arcades.

Palanga’s beaches are also fine, but there is more partying

Palanga

The long, white beach and the possibilities of recreation and high-life dominate the city. Long avenues and parks are excellent for evening strolls, and there are lots of ice cream stands, restaurants and beer places for those in need.

Kretinga is a bit inland, with museums and palaces

Kretinga

A city some distance from the coast, where life is slower. Take a walk in the Town Park, visit Tiskevicius’ Palace – today the Town Museum, or the magnificent church. Whatever you do, don’t miss the astronomic calendar.

Klaipeda is the big harbour city

Klaipeda

Lithuania’s largest harbour city and the only Baltic one ice-free all year around. All ferries from the region arrive here. It is also the hometown of Svyturys beer – which you can’t fail to notice. Klaipeda is also the gateway to…

Neringa is the beautiful sandbank protecting Lithuania from the Baltic Sea

Neringa

The Neringa sandbank stretches from Klaipeda and all the way to Kaliningrad. Here, on the outmost border against the Baltic Sea, people have lived and fought the sea through all time. You, on the other hand, can focus on the wonderful nature, the view from the sand dunes, bathing, the smoked fish and the beer.
