List of Acronyms

The listing below is only a short fragment of my (at this publishing) 6000 lines long list of acronyms. The list is centred around computer networks and protocols, but also contains other words found in conjunction with the network words, such as companies, machine types and software. A small number of other words are included, useful everyday acronyms like technical words, units of measure and the chemical elements. The list has been proof-read by experts on IBM, NetWare, network building etc.

If you want to search the list, it is easiest to use the built in text search tool of the web browser.

The list has the following fields (you need a very wide monitor to see them in the right order):

    1. Acronym.
    2. Origin, if an organisation could be traced as being the originator of the acronym.
    3. Interpretation, in the original language. If there are any doubts about the interpretation, all found interpretations have been included.
    4. Subject, the list has been roughly ordered into subjects, such as: standards, protocols, networks, radio technology, military, NetWare, Unix etc.
    5. Explanation, in Swedish, including of a translation, or an explanation of the interpretation or an explanation of the expression. Please observe that the list is not intended to be a textbook on technology. The explanation is only relevant for those who are familiar with the subject.
